Meet Marcia, a cancer patient who discovered scalp cooling after researching ways to preserve her hair during chemotherapy on the internet. Despite having some initial anxiety about whether scalp cooling would work for her, Marcia says that her experience was exactly as she had expected.

Often when patients are going through chemotherapy, many can feel the need to wear a head covering to compensate for hair thinning or as a means of maintaining their identity. Marcia did feel the need to wear a head covering during her treatment, saying “I used head coverings a lot as I could match them to my outfits”. Marcia also says head coverings were important to her as they meant that she “didn’t have to mess/style my own hair”

When asked whether she has any scalp cooling haircare tips for other cap users, Marcia says that it is vital to make sure your hair is really wet, as well as ensuring you have a tight, secure cap fit. As a final piece of advice, Marcia suggests refraining from the use of heated styling tools on your hair during treatment.

Asked how she feels about her scalp cooling experience, Marcia told us, “I am glad I used the system, as even though I did lose hair, it has grown back super-fast and is so thick and healthy.”

When we asked Marcia whether she would recommend scalp cooling to others, she enthusiastically replied, “One hundred percent”, which shows how empowering the scalp cooling process can be.
